Windhoek Consulting Engineers (PTY) Ltd has a vacancy for an Engineer: Layer Works, experienced in Rail and Rural Transport Engineering. The position is site-based.
 Duties and Responsibilities:
- Develop and analyze pavement designs for railway infrastructure, considering factors such as load-bearing capacity, durability, and resilience.
- Ensure layer works align with project specifications and industry standards.
- Select appropriate materials for railway layer works, to interface with design requirements of subgrade and perway standards/requirements.
- Conduct/oversee material testing and quality control measures to ensure adherence to project requirements.
- Supervise layer works construction activities, including adherence management, project requirements, specifications, and associated documentation.
- Monitor construction teams to ensure suitability, quality, and controls.
- Identify potential risks related to layer works, such as settlement issues, drainage problems, interface issues, and external influences.
- Develop and implement strategies to mitigate risks and ensure long-term stability and performance of the railway layers.
- Collaborate with other engineering disciplines to integrate layer works seamlessly into the overall railway design.
- Communicate effectively with project stakeholders, construction teams, and regulatory authorities to ensure alignment with project goals and compliance with standards.
Qualifications and Requirements:
- BSc Civil, B Eng Civil, or B Tech (Civil).
- At least 3 – 5 years of relevant experience in a similar environment.
- Experienced in Rural Roads & Railway type projects.
- Design and supervision of civil engineering- and building-type projects.
- Project life cycle project management skills.
- Fluent Caddie/Autocad and Civil Designer skills.
- Exceptional communication, report writing, and computer skills.
- Professional registration with ECN.
- Valid Driver’s License.
